On Saturday, 12 April 2025, we marked 20 years of successful work by the Škofja Loka Rotarians among friends in the pleasant atmosphere of Sokol Hall in Škofja Loka. On an emotional yet light-hearted evening, exceptional artists performed and gave the celebration a truly special character. Numerous guests from Slovenia and abroad celebrated with us as well.
I gave the keynote address at the anniversary ceremony.
I have followed the story of RC Škofja Loka from the very beginning. It is truly special because the club is closely connected with its community. This enables its members to understand the everyday challenges around them and to offer help quickly and effectively. I can say that I, too, have in some way become part of this story, and that from time to time we have worked together to build an understanding that the best kind of help is help that at least tries to understand what the recipient truly needs, rather than being offered out of pity or collective guilt. We are entering a time when helping does not seem to be the main problem; understanding the purpose of our action is. That is why a genuine understanding of a situation is so important for initiatives that are meant to help people achieve a better tomorrow. I emphasized this in my speech as well.
I also often stress that high-quality humanitarian organizations are a foundation of an open and understanding society. Rotary Club Škofja Loka is certainly an important link in the struggle for a world in which compassion between people comes first.
